A day in the life
I've been putting together internship possibilities for graduate school for the last few days, and it's time to take a break and do another fun post.
Summer 2012, a couple coaching friends and I were sitting around, enjoying the summer weather, doing what coaches love to do or what we love to do: talking shop. We do this often, or as often as our seasons will allow. It's interesting getting the different perspectives on sports and the problems we each encounter since we come from different sporting backgrounds.
The topic that night had us up for a good part of the evening, laughing near non-stop, giving each other a pretty good going over while still sharing an understanding. The topic? A day in the life, or a day in our life. We each agreed to write down one of our days, typical, atypical, whatever day we'd like, and then meet up again and share in our collective "misery."
My favorite days were the days before we traveled for a regatta. Those usually meant a later wake up - 7 am instead of 330 am - and a more relaxed afternoon of buying snacks, fueling the truck, hooking up the trailer, and then hitting the road. We usually tried to leave campus around 11, 1130 which gave us a leisurely trip that allowed for plenty of time to deal with any potential issues - and we had issues on a couple of trips. It meant pulling into Tacoma around 4, dropping the trailer, checking into our rooms, ordering dinner for the team, and then topping the truck off so we wouldn't have to stop on the way home.
I love regatta travel days.
Unless campus visitations, and preview days fell on regatta days. That happened a couple of times, and made for some very hectic moments trying to meet potential recruits and give them and their parents your undivided attention - they came to see you after all - while still accomplishing everything needed before leaving.
Those days were fun for a different set of reasons.
This is my, "Day in the life."

350 AM - Dress according to weather and practice - water or land. Grab extra clothing if preview day/recruit visitation.
400 AM - Brush teeth, check and fix hair (usually a tragic mess). Fix green tea while brushing teeth.
410 AM - Grab tea, water bottle, handful of almonds, start car.
420 AM - Leaving house.
500 AM - Arrive on campus (land day). Laugh about taking the best parking spot in the lot.
