Winter
We're getting ready to transition over to winter training although the weather outside has suggested otherwise. It's balmy and warm in the afternoons making it feel more like mid September rather than early November.
Last weekend was the final race of the fall for the novices and overall we did fairly well. The novice women placed 2nd in their fours race and did well in their eight. We took 4th and 5th in our fours race and 9th I believe in our eight. The guys learned a disappointing yet important lesson - check your equipment. The first four barely missed earning a medal due to the loss of a skeg but still managed to finish just behind 3rd place. Again painful but also a very good lesson that hopefully pays off in the future.
Currently two of the novice guys are working with the varsity teams going to the Head of the Lake Regatta this coming weekend so the rest of the team is taking it easy doing some cross training on land as well as simple technique rows. We are also breaking in a new coxswain for spring. Next week with the full team back we will transition more with fitness testing in the form of a 6k and a couple 8 minute tests to give us an idea of where we are now, how we've improved from the last 6k test, and what each individual should focus on this winter.
