Spring Dinner

Two days till we leave for Las Vegas.  The time is dragging on.

A few weeks ago it seemed as though spring was simply going to fly by.  Since then it's been dragging along so slowly that it's felt as though we're going nowhere.  Some days it feels as though we're going backward.

But the dates on the calendar continue to fall off and the scientific community hasn't announced that the days are longer, or that we've entered into a timewarp so we must be moving.

With that being said, this passed weekend was the spring kickoff dinner and CRASH BEAVS erg race.  I can tell you that this event has grown exponentially since my first spring kick off dinner in 2015.  Back then there wasn't an erg race, just the dinner.  And then dinner was small with the coaches speaking to the team and guests and a highlight video.

Since then it has grown in size and stature with guest speakers, honoring graduating seniors and a live & silent auction as well as support from a local brewery.

This year we christened two new Pocock Racing Eights.  The women will row the "Emily Ford," while the men's new shell is named after a generous benefactor, "Dr. Robert Poole 67'."  Both are beautiful top of the line shells and both teams are excited to have them.  The men will break in the new shell this coming weekend in Las Vegas racing against Cal, Dartmouth, and USD.

And that's where we are.  48 hours and counting till Chris and I head the truck south.  We'll push for Bakersfield or Barstow - depends on how we feel - and then into Vegas on Friday morning.  I'm sure Wednesday will feel rushed, but until then, Wednesday feels as though it's another season away.
